Grant and Funding Eligibility

To be eligible for funding, organizations must meet the following minimum requirements. Additional requirements may apply.
  • Operate a food program located within the five boroughs of New York City;
  • Have federal 501 (c) (3) status;
  • Have been in operation for at least six consecutive months;
  • Provide food free of charge to the general public;
  • Meet NYC Department of Health requirements (soup kitchens only)

UWNYC – HPNAP OS Reimbursement Expenditure Report

NEW REPORTING TOOLS FOR 2024-2025 GRANT YEAR! All Operations Support grantees are required to successfully submit a reimbursement expenditure report for funds to be released. The necessary forms and guides will be provided via email to each agencies contacts we have on file. Please utilize the links below for additional copies of the OS reporting manual/ guides and forms. City Harvest

City Harvest delivers nutrient rich food, with an emphasis on fresh produce, free of charge to community food programs across the five boroughs. Food Bank For New York City

Food Bank provides free food to emergency and community food programs in NYC. In addition, the Food Bank offers education and technical support to its network of programs. For information about applying for membership contact, 212-566-7855, ext 1009.

Hunger Prevention And Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP)

Food Bank For New York City and United Way of New York City support emergency food providers (food pantries and soup kitchens) with food, operations and equipment grant funding through the New York State Department of Health, Division of Nutrition, Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP). This is an annual grant and providers must re-apply every year.

Community Food Connection (CFC)

NYC Department of Social Services Community Food Connection (CFC) provides food and administrative support to cover utilities, equipment, food service products, office supplies, and personnel to emergency food provider (food pantries and soup kitchens) in order to improve the nutritional status of low-income New Yorkers. Emergency Food And Shelter Program (EFSP)

The Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) is a federal grant that supports local organizations providing emergency food, shelter, rental and utility arrears assistance. Seed Grant

The Seed Grant supports NYC-based non-profit organizations interested in developing projects that create or enhance innovative and sustainable solutions to address the emergency food and nutrition needs of low-income individuals. Applications are released once a year contingent on funding availability.
